Henry Hess

Henry Hess (M’13) is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON NANOBIOSCIENCE. He was born in the German Democratic Republic in 1973 and received the Vordiplom in physics from the Technical University Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany, in 1993, the Diplom in physics from the Technical University Berlin, Germany, in 1996 and the Dr.rer.nat. in physics from the Free University Berlin, Germany, in 1999.

After appointments as Postdoctoral Scientist and Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington, he joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida in 2005 as Assistant Professor. Since 2009, he held an appointment as Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University, New York. Prof. Hess is a member of the German Physical Society, the American Chemical Society, the Materials Research Society, and the Biomedical Engineering Society. Prof. Hess has served on the Steering Committee for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON NANOBIOSCIENCE from 2009 to 2013. He also served as Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Nanotechnology in Engineering and Medicine (2009–2013) and as member of the Editorial Board of Applied Physics Reviews (2010–2013). He is a member of the External Advisory Board of Nano Letters since 2010.
